Weld Racing L.L.C. Announces the RT-S Line of Forged Aluminum Wheels
Muscular Style and Today’s Technology in One Wheel
Kansas City, U.S.A. January 26, 2010—
Weld Racing, the racing wheel company with the most wins on its product year after year, introduced the 2010 RT-S line of forged aluminum wheels at the 2009 PRI Show in Orlando Florida. The nation’s largest performance and racing show was the perfect place to unveil the new line’s two designs. The S71, a traditional “Weldstar” design, and the S74, a sophisticated Y-spoke design, make up the initial RT-S style offering. The available sizes range from 15”x4” to 18”x18”, to fit the wide array of tires available today and vehicles from classic to 2010 Muscle. The 15 inch diameter versions are available in February, followed by 17 inch, then 18 inch diameters during the first quarter of 2010. Forged from primary aluminum alloys in the U.S.A., as are all Weld Racing wheels, they are lighter, stronger, and truer than other brands. The quality alloys in the wheels polish to a brilliant shine and resist oxidation better than other alloys. The option of black anodized centers with milled highlights adds to the choices and appeal.
Forged wheels have numerous advantages over cast wheels and non-forged billet wheels. A cast wheel is made from A-356 Aluminum that is melted and poured into a mold. This material is only 60% as strong as 5000 or 6000 series alloys that are forged into shape. In addition the cast A-356 is brittle and porous. Not exactly properties you want in a wheel, especially in a high performance application! A billet of aluminum alloy that is not forged to approximate shape before machining does not have grain running from center to rim like spokes on a wheel. A forged billet, done correctly, does. This prevents de-lamination failures that can occur during high loads in a pure billet wheel. The forging process also increases the surface density of the wheel improving durability further. With a stronger material you can use less to build the wheel reducing its weight as much as 40% and still have a more durable wheel.
The RT-S wheels are three-piece forgings for application flexibility that are assembled by welding. In addition to the large array of widths and offsets, there are three mounting pad heights available to fit your brake package while maximizing the depth of the outer wheel lip. Primary forging grade aluminum alloys are used to create these and all Weld Racing wheels and this means no recycled scrap is used, as in most cast wheels and others. The difference in quality is obvious from the appearance, the strength, and the durability.
Weld RT-S wheels are available in widths to 18” to accommodate monster tires. Each design is modeled in 3D, and then tested with F.E.A. and destructive testing in our facility to insure your safety. Capable of handling 1200 horse power, 1.2 second 60 ft. times, 1,580 pound loads, and very high speeds, these wheels are the answer to today’s powerful and sophisticated Hot Rods and Street Machines.
For over 40 years Weld Racing built technologically superior wheels in the U.S.A. Today Weld Racing L.L.C. continues the tradition of building Racing and High Performance wheels in the heart of the U.S., using 21st century technology while giving the customer top quality, true craftsmanship, and excellent customer service.

Can you give us a ballpark on pricing for the 17's and 18's? I'm ready to buy and would wait on the 18's if they are priced right. Just curious if they are going to be between $3000 to $4000 a set like everyone elses (forgeline, dpe, boze, hre, foose, billet specialities etc).
Thanks.

Yes, the new RT-S Series with the "Medium Pad" will fit without grinding. A 15x10 with 7.5" backspace rear and 15x4 with 1.5" backspace front was developed specifically for that car.
The RT Series will also fit without any caliper grinding also.

When will you have the 18" wheels for sale. I like the looks of this wheel and if the price is right will be purchasing a set. The rear size would be 18"-10" with a 5" back spacing. 4 3/4 bolt pattern. Will you be producing this size?

Yes, an 18"x10" will be available in a 5" backspace with a 4-3/4 bolt pattern. 18" will be available from 18"x5.5" to 18"x18" by 1/2" increments in width and backspacing. The tooling is being finshed in the next couple weeks with production ramp up to follow. Sales should start around late May early June.
Hope this helps.

A 15x10 at 6.5" backspace should fit an SN95 car, I'm not sure which rear brake is on that car so am not sure if you need the "Low Pad" or "Medium Pad" for clearance.

so what does "lowpad" and "medium pad" mean?
The pad refers to the mounting surface where it contacts the vehicle. Low pad wheels have very little pad extension away from the center. Medium pad has more material at this point to allow for more brake clearance. In 17 and 18 inch we will have low, medium and high pads for all the late model big brakes and aftermarket brake kits. I hope this helps, if not give us a call we can help explain it over the phone.

How much would the weight be for a 17x9.5 & 17x11 ?
Would the RT-S wheel hold up to an autocross runing sticky d.o.t. race tires?
The vehicle will be a 70 Chevelle weighing around 3400-3600lbs
Thanks for any info. These are some of the most beautiful wheels on the market.

Thanks for the inquiry Cliff, I would have to say at this time the RT-S would NOT be a suitable wheel choice for this application. These wheels have not been tested in this market segement. These are a street and strip capable wheel, but the side load issues will come into play with your Chevelle.

The 2010 Camaro SS has 2 different brake set ups. The later versions have 2 harmonic dampers on top of the front brake caliper. If you have this version then NO we cannot fit it with an 18 inch wheel. The rear we can fit with 18 inch, but I am sure you want them to match. Let me know if your car has these dampers on it.

I'm interested in the 15" RT-S wheels for my project. I'm running a wilwood 12.19" vented rear brake kit (pn. 140-2115). It requires the barrel of the wheel to be 14.06" ID min. Will a 15x10 4.5" BS RT-S work with these brakes?
How thick is the wheel from the rotor face to the lug nut spot face? The old alumastars I have on the car now are .500" thick and use a .490" shank length lug. Is the RT-S the same.
weldadmin
11-16-2010, 09:26 AM
According to Wilwood's drawing for this brake package (140-2115), the wheel will clear with a medium pad height S71 RT-S wheel.
The S71 RT-S wheel will take the same lugs as the AlumaStar.

Hello Weld Racing!
Supposedly, Jay is working on finding out for me if the RT-S (S71) 17x10.5" will fit on a 2010 Camaro SS (5x120 bolt pattern). However, if that doesn't work out, I am looking at purchasing a 17x10.0" from a Weld distributor, but I noticed their part number was "71HP7100N72A". Your website won't allow me to select and view the back-spacing and offset options available on this size wheel. Can you please give the specs on this "72A" part number (i.e. Back-Spacing, Offset, Weight)? Thanks.
Any chance of fixing the website, so that we can at least see what options (fitments) are available?
Weld2
02-25-2011, 11:42 AM
The 71HP7100N72A (2010 Camaro fitment) has a 7.20" back space with 44mm offset. The wheel weighs 19.30 lbs.
We are in the process of uploading the remainder of the 17" part numbers to the website. This will be completed as soon as possible. We also hope to include a fitment guide in the future, but until then, our sales staff will be happy to help.
